Lace Festival Opens in Idrija

The 16th Lace Festival started in the town of Idrija, western Slovenia, on Friday, to run throughout the next week. Focussed on the practical application of laces, the festival is sponsored by President Milan Kučan, who stressed at the opening that Idrija, once a world-famous quick silver centre, made a product of the future from the ancient art of lace-making.
