Slovenes Working in Germany to Lose Work Permits

Ljubljana, 2 October - SLOVENIA/GERMANY/CONSTRUCTION/INDUSTRY
The German government has recently decided to stop issuing work permits after 30 September 1997 to those workers who are employed in enterprises from non-EU member countries. This measure will affect severely some 50 Slovene firms with 1100 employees working in Germany, 80 percent of which in the construction industry. In end-July the Slovene Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Affairs was informed by the German Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs that after 30 September 1997 further approvals of contracts that extend beyond 30 September 1997 will be stopped.
