Presidential election
"Palace awaits fifth president": Slovenians will cast their vote for a new president sometime between the first half of October and 4 December. Marta Kos, Ernest Petrič and Igor Zorčič are the first potential candidates. (front page, page 2)

Acute hepatitis
"No reason for concern": Slovenian doctors have so far handled one case of suspected hepatitis in children. The child is already recovering at home. Health Minister Janez Poklukar says the virus is rare so there is no reason for concern. (front page, page 3)

War in Ukraine
"Guterres heard Russian missiles": UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres witnessed a Russian military attack while visiting Kyiv. (front page, pages 5-7)

European Women's Handball Championship
"Women handballers on wings of optimism": Slovenia will host the European Women's Handball Championship, the biggest competition for women athletes yet, in November. A draw held at Ljubljana Castle yesterday pit the home team against Denmark, Sweden and Serbia for the preliminary round. (front page, page 21)

Acute hepatitis
"On the hunt for cause of mysterious liver inflammation": A child from Slovenia has been diagnosed with liver inflammation of unknown origin and is now recovering at home. Immunologist Alojz Ihan says experts have detected increased presence of adenoviruses with such types of hepatitis, "but this proves nothing yet". (front page, page 4)

Economic trends
"Economic growth to be lower, inflation higher still": The government got formally acquainted with IMAD's spring economic forecast at last. The think-tank downgraded growth forecast for this year from 4.7% to 4.2% while projecting 6.4% inflation. (front page, page 3)

General election

"He beat her brutally with a bat": A 34-year-old woman is fighting for her life at the Maribor UKC hospital after being attacked and severely injured by a 47-year-old man yesterday. He was arrested soon after the deed. (front page, page 12)

Culture
"No room for artists": The Maribor gallery K18 is closing down after 12 years. The city authorities and Maribor Youth Centre are planning workshops and educational activities at the location. (front page, page 17)
