170-member orchestra to celebrate Tartini's birthday in Piran
Piran, 21 May - An orchestra boasting 170 musicians of all ages from Slovenia, Croatia and Italy will on Saturday play music by Giuseppe Tartini (1692-1770) in Piran's main square, which is named after the composer, to honour his 330th birth anniversary. The celebration is part of the Tartinijada music festival.

The international orchestra honouring Tartini will be led by violinist Zdravko Pleše, who also adapted Tartini's music for the orchestra.
Pleše and Tina Bržan started the festival honouring Tarini in 2012. It was conceived as a biannual event and will be held for the fourth time this year.
A total of 166 children, youth and professional and non-professional musicians from Slovenia, Italy and Croatia will take part, said the organisers - the Viola music school, the Union of Piran Cultural Societies and the Piran branch of the Public Institute for Cultural Activities.
Tartinijada is a gathering of musicians - students, teachers, orchestra members and soloists - celebrating Tartini's creativity and his spirit.
Tratini was an Italian Baroque composer and violinist. His birth house in the main square in the coastal town of Piran is still preserved.
He grew up in Piran and then went to study law in Padua. After spending some years in Assisi, studying violin, he returned to the city in northern Italy, where he founded a violin school. He died in Padua on 26 February 1770.
Last year the 250th anniversary of his death was marked in Piran with a project dubbed Tartini 250 and the government declared 2022 Tartini's year to mark his 330th birth anniversary.
