75th Anniversary of Incorporation of Libeliče Village into Slovenia
Ljubljana, 19 October - LIBELIČE/INCORPORATION/ANNIVERSARY
The village of Libeliče organized a ceremony on Sunday morning marking the 75th anniversary of the incorporation of the village into Slovenia. Libeliče, a village on the Drava river in the region of Carinthia, was incorporated into Austria after the 1920 plebiscite. After two years of efforts, however, its inhabitants, most of which Slovenes, succeeded in incorporating it back into Slovenia. The speaker of honour at the ceremony, Slovene President Milan Kučan said this was a courageous act of loyalty that should be proudly remembered. Those who were stubbornly persistent made this piece of homeland change the political map of Europe, which at the time had already fixed new borders that seemed final.
