Minister talks to reps of Slovenian communities in S America

Ljubljana, 9 August - Minister for Slovenians Abroad Matej Arčon talked with representatives of Slovenian communities in Latin America via video link on Tuesday. They presented to the minister activities of their communities living in Brazil, Venezuela, Columbia and Bolivia, the Government Office for Slovenians Abroad said in a press release.

The minister underlined the importance of preserving the Slovenian language, which, he believes, should be given special attention.

He also stressed the importance of economic cooperation and of including the young generation in the communities.

Similar to his meetings with other Slovenian communities around the world, Arčon invited the Slovenian communities in Latin America to take part in the 2025 Capital of Europe project hosted by Slovenia's Nova Gorica and Gorizia, Italy.

He expressed the wish for frequent and intensive cooperation to continue in the future.

Among others, the meeting was attended by Slovenian Ambassador to Brazil Gorazd Renčelj, as well as honorary consuls in Sao Paolo and Rio de Janeiro.
