Delo: Interview with Prime Minister Janez Drnovšek

Ljubljana, 8 November - PRESS/DELO/INTERVIEW/DRNOVŠEK
Although it was only a fortnight ago that the government announced the 1998 budget deficit would amount to 0.5 percent GDP, it now plans it at 0.8 percent, as some measures, such as the car tax, had not been introduced yet, Prime Minister Janez Drnovšek said in an interview for daily Delo's Saturday Supplement. The 0.5 percent deficit nevertheless remains a goal for Premier Drnovšek and his party, so efforts continue to find a way for bringing it down to the targeted level. A way to cover the gap is to sell part of state and public property, so the decision must be taken on what to sell. "1998 will be tough. The year after will be better," announced Premier Drnovšek.
