The government was wrong when counting to get 710 billion Slovene tolars (SIT) from taxpayers for the budget. Government officials know now that they can get SIT 693 billion by end-December. For a layman, this mistake is SIT 17 billion worth. But not for the government, who chose to "extend" the year of 1997 for an additional month. Longer than other years by a month, this years would bring just enough money to the budget. In this way the government could keep a promise about nearly 1 percent budget deficit, Thursday's issue of Večer writes.
