Delo: Debt from Zagreb
Ljubljana, 20 November - The Zagreb Trade Court has postponed a case of Privredna Banka Zagreb (Zagreb Commercial Bank) vs. Ljubljanska Banka d.d. (Bank of Ljubljana) and Nova Ljubljanska Banka (New Bank of Ljubljana) for an "indefinite period of time". The Croatian bank claims repayment of D-mark 140 million of principal and interest from foreign exchange savings deposits. One billion D-marks - the sum total featuring in the story about the Ljubljanska banka Zagreb subsidiary - constitutes the most complicated issue in the relations between Slovenia and Croatia. The same vagueness hangs about the result of the lawsuit: it may even become a precedent. A similar and possibly even bigger action has been namely announced by Zagrebačka banka, i.e. another Zagreb bank, and it would not come as a surprise if the latter was followed by some other Croatian banks, a Slovene daily writes on Thursday.
