Upper chamber's first attempt to elect president fails

Ljubljana, 12 December - The new National Council, the upper chamber of parliament, confirmed five-year terms of all 40 councillors as it met for its inaugural session on Monday. However, the councillors failed to elect their president as neither of the three candidates won the required minimum of 21 votes. The next vote is scheduled next Monday.
