Mladina: Metod Dragonja - Slovene Ironworks are the Biggest Economic Problem
Ljubljana, 8 December - PRESS/MLADINA
The Slovene Ironworks steel industry concern represents the largest problem of the Slovene economy, Economics Minister Metod Deragonja told in an interview for weekly Mladina published on Monday. The volume of accumulated problems is so huge that it raises a doubt whether it is possible to reorganize the concern at all thus finding a way out of the current situation, Dragonja said. He believes that the steel industry is unlikely to expand. It will be further reduced and only the best programmes kept in operation. By privatizing the Slovene Ironworks either partial or complete private ownership could be introduced. Simultaneously, new management and ownership initiatives that the governmment themselves can not carry out effectively would be introduced, Minister Dragonja said.
