The 1998 budget shows no significant investments to environment protection, knowledge and science. Unless the recently established National Committee for Climate Research and the National Society for Sustainable Development draw up fiscal and other instruments that would make a serious turn towards sustainable development, Slovenia will miss its chance and distance itself environmentally, economically and socially from the European Union it wants to enter so badly, daily Dnevnik says in its commentary of the Monday issue.
