Consumer Price Index Becomes Indicator of Inflation

The government endorsed a decision to introduce the consumer price index as an indicator of inflation at its last correspondence session this year, Government Secretary General Borut Šuklje said Tuesday. State Undersecretary at the Foreign Ministry Peter Toš was appointed new Chairman of the Slovene part of the mixed Slovene-Croatian diplomatic commission for borders. Another decision taken at the session was to subsidize monthly travel cards or bus passes for pupils and students who do not go to school in their home town. As of 1 February 1998 the government will pay 17 percent of a full price.
