Ljubljana, 10 January - 1998's first working week was marked by price hikes, in particular for milk. Cow milk purchase prices were raised by nine percent on 5 January, when the government also deregulated retail prices for consumer milk. Also in the forefront were wages of directors in public sector institutions, funds, agencies and state-owned enterprises. The government namely gave orders before the New Year that the wages be adjusted by 25 December 1997 to up to 90 percent of the branch minister, monthly salary.
