Lloyd: Britain Heads EU in an Important Period

The United Kingdom took over the half-year rotating presidency of the European Union on 1 January 1998. London will head the Union in an important period during which the decision will be taken on the group of countries to enter the European Monetary Union first and on the beginning of full membership negotiations with five central and eastern European countries plus Cyprus, Britain's ambassador to Slovenia David Lloyd told a news conference on Monday.
