Weekly Report for the Week From 24 September to 1 October

Ljubljana, 1 October - Ljubljana 1 October (STA) - Most news stories at home the past week took place in parliament where a marathon September session began. The deputies will discuss as many as 52 items scheduled on the two week agenda. The central event in international politics from Slovenia's point of view was the Conference of the General Assembly of the United Nations. The conference was attended by the Slovenian Prime Minister, Janez Drnovšek. A Slovenian delegation led by the Minister of Finance, Mitja Gaspari, took part at the regular annual Assembly of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in Washington. This was the first time Slovenia was present as a full member of these international financial institutions. Slovenia continues to be represented in the USA at the moment by the Slovenian Foreign Minister, Lojze Peterle.
