Solana: NATO's Open-Door Policy is the Only Policy of NATO

Further enlargement of NATO will depend on various political and geostrategic interests of individual NATO member countries, particularly larger ones. Slovenia is well aware of this, therefore it does not wish to harbour too high expectations about its membership of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Nevertheless, NATO membership remains one of Slovenia's goals, Slovenia's Premier Janez Drnovšek commented on Slovenia's stance on its integration into NATO at a news conference Friday at the conclusion of NATO Secretary General Javier Solana's two-day visit to Slovenia. NATO Secretary General Solana underlined that the open-door policy is the only policy NATO has and added that the role of Slovenia has increased after it became a nonpermanent member of the UN Security Council.
