Obramba: President Kučan: The State is Young Alright but not Run by Children

The international position of Slovenia is good. Politically, the nation is part of the European security and political situation. Relations with neighouring countries are good. Problems with Croatia are not of the kind as to put the security of Slovenia at stake, and could be settled by way of dialogue. Slovenia is faced with some security problems at home, such as the insufficiently defined welfare state under a new rule, a lacking rule of law, a tendency to politicize civil service jobs, some faults in the organization of the armed forces and their relation to the defence ministry, the government, Parliament and the commander-in-chief and civil control, and insufficiency organized defence and military doctrine, President of Slovenia Milan Kučan said in an interview for April's issue of Obramba (Defence). All these issues hinder the work of able and diligent people in this field, the president added.
