Delivering the end-of-year message on TV Slovenija on Sunday, he said Slovenia remained a community committed to care for fellow human beings.

Golob pointed to several measures his government achieved this year, including rises in minimum wage and pensions. He used the opportunity to describe the new grid charges system as unacceptable again in what is the latest in a series of critical remarks he made against the Energy Agency, which meanwhile insists on the new regime.

According to him, the government is striving to make citizens' lives better, but this journey is not easy or flawless. The goal demands a lot of adjustments, "and so we weed a frank, open and above all respectful public discourse".

People should not fear different opinions, but they should take a stand against hate speech and ostracization. "We only have one country, and we are duty-bound to preserve its independence, freedom and kindness for future generations."

In the 2024 Good Country Index Slovenia ranks eighth overall. Category-wise, its best result - seventh place among 174 countries - involves its global contribution to science and technology.

It ranks 14th in culture, 18th in the planet and climate category, 19th in its global contribution to world order, 22nd in health and wellbeing, 25th in prosperity and equality, and 47th in its global contribution to international peace and security.
