Number of births hits new low in 2024

Ljubljana, 7 January - Slovenia recorded 16,735 births in 2024, a 0.8% decrease on 2023 and thus a new record low that comes as part of a decline in births observed since 2010. While fertility rates are declining only mildly, the shrinking population of women of childbearing age remains a key factor, according to the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ).
