Sevnica has garnered international attention since 2016, when Melania Trump was set to become the first lady of the US. The town has since launched many Melania-themed products to honour its former resident, and is looking forward to celebrate the second time Trump takes up the role of first lady.
On the occasion, the Culture, Sport, Tourism and Youth Sevnica association will organise a free guided walk through the town, visiting some of the places where Melania spent her childhood. The family-run café Slaščičarna Julija, which makes cake Melanija, will be one of the destinations.
The association will also unveil an updated version of its brand First Lady, which was launched eight years ago. The brand includes various local products celebrating Melania Trump such as wine, chocolate, tea, salami and a beauty cream.
The event at the castle will moreover feature the famous local culinary treats that honour the town's former resident - in addition to cake Melanija also apple pie Prva Dama (First Lady) and Predsedniški Burger (President's Burger).
In the evening, the Rotary Club of Sevnica is hosting a Slovenian-American gourmet dinner in honour of Melania Trump. The event will be attended by representatives of the US Embassy, local politicians, and business leaders working with US companies.
Mojca Pernovšek, director of Culture, Sport, Tourism and Youth Sevnica, said that Melania Trump's first stint as first lady brought increased tourist interest in Sevnica. A similar surge is also expected during Trump's second term, with interest in products associated with the new first couple already on the rise, Pernovšek told the STA.
