The equipment, delivered on Tuesday, will mostly be distributed to areas at direct risk of flooding to be used in cooperation with municipalities and firefighters.
Part of the equipment will be used by the civil protection administration for educational purposes.
In the next two years the administration will train more than 1,500 persons as responders in case of flooding, Behin said. They will be able to respond immediately in their vicinity, help a neighbouring local community in 2-4 hours or help in another region or country in 4-8 hours, Behin said.
More than EUR 30 million were used for the purchase of specialized trucks, roll-off containers and pumps. EUR 6.5 million came from the administration while the rest were EU funds.
"The fact is that this equipment has not been bought at this scale and for this purpose using EU funds anywhere else in Europe," Behin said, adding that public tenders in the project have not always been successful due to a lack of time and longer shipment times.
"I want this to be an area where we breathe as one," said Defence Minister Borut Sajovic, adding that Slovenia has to tackle danger and threats united, not politically divided. He stressed the importance of transparency in state investments, adding that it is hard-earned money of the people that is being spent.
