Audit shows irregularities at centre for heart diseases Medicor
LJUBLJANA - Last year's investigation into the centre for cardiovascular diseases Medicor has found a number of irregularities. Some of the centre's employees worked there without the necessary permits, documentation was incomplete and there were several discrepancies in a case involving an 80-year-old patient who died after surgery, the Nurses and Midwives Association told TV Slovenija on Saturday. The Health Ministry and Medical Chamber are also looking into the case, while Medicor said today this was not a case of medical error and stressed that the investigation found mostly administrative shortcomings that had not affected the outcome of the treatment of the patient.
Prominent doctor celebrated for calling a spade a spade
MARIBOR - The 2024 Spade of the Year award went to haematology expert Samo Zver for his statement criticising the current doctors' strike, which has been going on for a year now. The media publisher Večer's award for the most succinct comment on current affairs was presented in Maribor on Saturday evening. "You can't strike using someone who needs your help. Anyone who needs your help cannot be involved in efforts to achieve goals that affect your private gain," goes the statement Zver, 59, made in an interview with Večer last October.
Domen Prevc wins ski flying event in Oberstdorf
OBERSTDORF, Germany - Slovenian ski jumper Domen Prevc won a ski flying World Cup event in Oberstdorf after placing third on Saturday. Slovenia were therefore an undisputed winner of the ski flying weekend in the German ski resort as Timi Zajc won Saturday's event. Prevc has now taken the lead in the overall ski flying standings, sharing the first place with Norway's Johann Andre Forfang, while Zajc is third.
Another podium for Nika Prevc in Japan
ZAO, Japan - Slovenia's ski jumper Nika Prevc won third place in Zao, Japan in what was another podium finish for her in recent days. The reigning crystal globe winner has pushed her lead in the World Cup overall standings out to 45 points ahead of Germany's Katharina Schmid. Austria's Jacqueline Seifriedsberger won the event.
