Slovenia's GDP per Head Reaches US$ 9161 in 1997

Slovenia's gross domestic product (GDP) totaled 2907 billion Slovene tolars (SIT) last year, 13.9 percent up from 1996 in nominal terms, according to the preliminary data provided by the National Statistical Office. Taking into account the current prices and current exchange rate, last year's GDP reached US$ 18.2 billion, or US$ 9161 per capita. The GDP in 1997 was down 3.5 percent over 1996 because the U.S. dollar was becoming stronger than other foreign currencies. The 1997 GDP per capita was 3.3 percent down over 1996, the Statistical Office said.
