Slovene Police Crack Down on Smugglers of Cigarettes and Alcohol

Ljubljana, 5 May - INTERIOR/MINISTRY/SMUGGLING
Approximately 84,000 bottles of foreign alcoholic drinks and 341,000 packages of cigarettes of various foreign trade marks were seized in several house searches carried out by the Slovene police on 23 April when the first stage of a waste investigation into the smuggling of alcohol and cigarettes was concluded. The value of the seized goods totals 4.8 million German marks. During the course of smuggling, the suspects have illegally earned nearly 12 million German marks from stolen goods, since the value of the smuggled goods reached at least 20.3 million German marks on the market.
