Nova Gorica hotel hosting cross-border exhibition of prints
Nova Gorica, 4 February - An exhibition of prints is opening at the Park Hotel in Nova Gorica on Tuesday, featuring 190 works by 22 artists from the western Primorska region and areas along the border in Italy populated by the Slovenian minority.
The artists helped shape modern art in the cross-border area that is hosting the European Capital of Culture this year, said Hit, the company that owns the hotel and all the artworks on show.
The hallways of the hotel will feature 118 artworks, while a further 72 will be on show in the hotel rooms.
The prints were created in the second half of the 20th century with the oldest one dating back to 1951 and the newest one to 1989.
"This exhibition is an excellent example of economy listening to art and art enriching economy and society," the chairman of the board Sandi BrataĊĦevec said.
Mija Lorbek, director of the GO! 2025 Institute that is organising the European Capital of Culture project in Slovenia, said that the exhibition is important because it is the only such art collection in the region and because it is set up outside the standard gallery venues.
The exhibition will be open every Wednesday afternoon or at other times by prior appointment. Visitors will receive a special postcard and bookmark, while a catalogue of the graphics and the artists has been created for the exhibition.
