Slovene Peoples' Party Marks Its 10th Anniversary

The Slovene People's Party (SLS), the No. 2 government coalition party, marked its 10th anniversary on Sunday with a ceremony at the Union cinema in Ljubljana. According to the honorary speaker, SLS Chairman and Deputy Prime Minister Marjan Podobnik, the Slovene Farmers' Union, as it was called at the time, was the first Slovene spring party to break the fresh ground of democratization in Slovenia, while Slovenia's independence followed from the grounds headed by Demos, the first coalition of oppositional parties in Slovenia.
