Grom Ravnikar, who received the honour at the Brdo congress centre on Saturday, International Women's Day, has dedicated many years to volunteering at the Ljubljana Oncology Institute.
At the institute, she encounters people in severe distress, "offering them kind words, warm embraces and steadfast support, encouraging them and instilling the optimism needed to fight their illness".
Grom Ravnikar also organises an annual charity concert for the Heroes of the Third Floor, the association ran by parents of children with cancer, with all ticket proceeds dedicated to purchasing essential medical equipment.
"Together, we can forge a better future if we believe in the power of compassion and perseverance," the organisers quoted the honour recipient as saying.
In total, 14 women were nominated for the title this year, with 93,000 people casting their votes, a record, according to the organisers.
At the award ceremony, the winner's bouquet was presented by Jana editor-in-chief Melita Berzelak, while the keynote address was delivered by Prime Minister Robert Golob.
