Delo: How to Settle Open Issues with Croatia

Finance ministers of Slovenia and Croatia, Mitja Gaspari and Borislav Skegro, agreed Friday in Zagreb that they would further discuss issues concerning the Ljubljanska Banka Zagreb subsidiary. So far, they have not "negotiated" because they were said not to have a mandate to do so. In addition, they needed "broader political consultations". Taking the balance of political powers in both countries into account, Minister Skegro is likely to have less consultations than Gaspari. In Slovenia, a "deep" parliamentary debate can be expected, which would hopefully manage to determine national interests and possibly reach a long-awaited "historical compromise" with Croatia, Delo says.
