CoE Rapporteur Schwimmer Concludes Visit to Slovenia
Ljubljana, 4 June - PARLIAMENT/COUNCIL/EUROPE
Head of the Slovene delegation to the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (CoE PA) Borut Pahor told a news conference Thursday that he agreed with Walter Schwimmer, the deputy chairman of the CoE PA committee for legal matters and human rights, that a report on the situation in Slovenia was no longer needed. The Slovene delegation filed on 10 October 1994 a draft resolution to the CoE PA designed to secure help to Slovenia's efforts to join the EU in the time when Italy made the signing of the Europe Accord with Slovenia conditional. Later on, however, Slovenia accepted the Spanish initiative and changed its constitution, which enabled the reaching of the Europe Accord, Pahor said. As a result, Schwimmer's Committee will propose to the CoE PA that such a report should be dropped.
