Podobnik: Parliament to Discuss Position Papers for the EU in September
Ljubljana, 1 August - PARLIAMENT/PODOBNIK/EU
National Assembly Speaker Janez Podobnik has talked about the harmonization of Slovenia's legislation with the standards of the European Union in an interview for STA, stressing the first group of laws within the protection legislation package was adopted along the ratification of the Europe Agreement last year. The second group of laws, which are according to Podobnik a great challenge, is in the last phase of preparation in the government. Some of the laws have been submitted to the parliament and put on the agenda of the tenth regular parliamentary session for first reading. Podobnik said even more efforts would have to be taken to establish working, creative and clear relations between the government and the parliament in the sense of their authorities. In September the parliament will have to deal with first areas which require elaborated position papers. 'We are, I believe, the only among the six countries invited to enter the European Union in the first round to have it written in its laws that the National Assembly has to give its consent to the position papers. It will happen in the first days of September,' the parliament speaker added.
