First Parliamentary Meeting of EU Membership Front-Runners

Ljubljana, 12 November - PARLAMENTS/EU/CANDIDATES
Charmen of the committees dealing with European affairs at national parliaments of Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Poland and Cyprus, the leading candidate countries for membership with the EU, met for the first time in Ljubljana on Thursday. At the meeting held behind closed doors, parliamentary representatives discussed the role of national parliaments of associate member states and particularly that of parliamentary working bodies dealing with European affairs, the screening process and the opening of membership negotiations, and the experience after the recent enforcement of accession agreements. A final statement was adopted at the end of the meeting.
