The National Council imposed in 1998 a veto on five acts, but the National Assembly in the second vote passed all five. President of the National Council Tone Hrovat said in an interview for STA the Council would in the future try to play a more active role in the legislation procedure, so that a veto would no longer be necessary as all remarks would be taken into account before a bill is passed in the parliament. In the first year of its term the Council had a number of contacts with similar bodies in other countries.
