Slovenia and the EU from 12 through 18 December
Ljubljana, 20 December - The main event in the European Union this week was the summit in Vienna that ended the six-month Austrian presidency of the Union with Germany taking over on 1 January. On the summit's second day, heads of government and foreign ministers of eleven candidate countries, including Slovenia's Premier Janez Drnovsek and Foreign Minister Boris Frlec, met with member state leaders. Two other events were also important for Slovenia: in Strasbourg the joint parliamentary committee of the EU and Slovenia was finally set up, and in Brussels, Slovenia handed over position papers for five further chapters of the acquis. Position papers for another three chapters are to be delivered in January.
