Janez Podobnik: Plebiscit Message Transcends Frameworks of Slovene Statehood

The plebiscite decision for national independence and sovereignty is a road sign for the aspirations of the people of all ages, all races, all beliefs and all nations - not just Slovene but all the nations of the present and future Europe and the world: it is the result of the human desire to live a free life in a society that enables, enhances and safeguards these freedoms, Parliament Speaker Janez Podobnik said Wednesday at a formal session of Slovenia's National Assembly celebrating 26 December - the national independence day. On this day in 1990, Slovenes overwhelmingly voted for an independent state outside the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
