Statistics Legislation Easy to Adjust to Acquis

Ljubljana, 2 January - Multilateral and bilateral screenings of Slovenia's statistics legislation have demonstrated according to the European Commission that adoption of acquis for the field would not pose any particular problems for Slovenia as its legislation has largely been brought in line with the EU requirements in earlier stages; what will be needed, though, is to amend legislative acts on national statistics and modify the national statistical research program. There will be no bilateral negotiations with the EU for this field and no transitional period has be requested by Slovenia. The changes will need be carried out by the end of 2002, Tomaz Banovec, director of the National Statistical Office, said in an interview for STA.
