Government Gives No Approval to Mercator's Bid to Take Emona Merkur Over
Ljubljana, 28 January - GOVERNMENT/SESSION
The government unanimously refused to issue a permit for Mercator's purchase of Emona Merkur's 170,325 common registered shares. The decision was taken after basic guidelines for the national development strategy have been considered, State Secretary in the Ministry of Economic Relations and Development Anton Grabeljsek said Thursday after the government session. By reducing competitiveness and worsening the economic situation of Slovenia as a whole as well as of the regions in which Emona Merkur is present, the takeover resulting from such a purchase would have a negative impact on the development of the Slovene food retailers in the long run.
