Pustna Carnivals at Ptuj and Cerknica

Ptuj/Cerknica, 14 February - SHROVETIDE/CARNIVAL
The main Shrovetide event, the 39th korant celebration with a carnival, took place this Sunday at Ptuj, eastern Slovenia. Like all the years before, the central attraction this year were the "kurents" or "korants", mythological creatures that chase away winter and introduce spring, but there were also about 3000 other masks from around Slovenia and abroad. The traditional celebration of the victory of spring over winter was also attended by President Milan Kucan, Radio Slovenia reported.
