Government Discusses Operations of the Slovene Ironworks

The government on Thursday discussed a report on the operation of the Slovene Ironworks in the first nine months of 1998 and endorsed the provision of SIT 3 billion (US$ 17.5 million) fresh capital to the concern in 1999, in agreement with the rehabilitation programme. The programmes of the ironworks' rehabilitation and privatization are being implemented, but are not giving the desired results, Minister of Economic Activities Metod Dragonja explained. The loss of last year's operation is expected to amount to almost SIT 2 billion. This year's objective is to make the operation positive.
