Writers about the Essence of the Balkans Crises

Overlapping linguistic groups, closed religious communities, involvement of large powers, communist and Nazi heritage, and economic and political underdevelopment are the key reasons for slow democratisation and Europeanization of the Balkans, French historian Paul Garde said Friday at the 32nd International Writers Meeting of the PEN International Peace Committee at Bled, Slovenia. Garde was one of over a dozen speakers at the meetings central round table "The Role of Writers in the Promotion of the Culture of Peace", which chiefly dealt with the Balkans crisis.
