Poor Foreign Trade Results Caused by Depression in the Balkans and Russia

Ljubljana, 15 July - Slovenia recorded a considerable deficit in trading with foreign countries in May, which was chiefly due to political and economic difficulties in the regions of ex-Yugoslavia and the former Soviet Union, the National Statistical Office says. Exports to the EU member states - the largest and most important market for Slovenia - has been on a steady increase, marking a rise of 3.1 percent in the first five months of 1999 over the same period last year.
