"I was so pleased today to pronounce Slomsek as blessed," Pope John Paul II said in a sermon during the holy mass at Betnava Castle. The Holy Father stressed that Slomsek was "a young vine that bore abundant fruit of Christian holiness, of high culture and love of his homeland, and for this reason he stands today among us as a shining example of life according to the gospels".
