Kucan: Pope's Visit Is Not Important Just for Catholics, but For All Slovenes

"Today's visit by the Holy Father to our country is not important just for Catholics, but for all Slovenes," President Milan Kucan told the press after meeting face to face with Pope John Paul II on Sunday evening. As to its significance, the work of Bishop Anton Martin Slomsek, whom the Pope beatified earlier in the day, exceeds by far the narrow pastoral activity, reaching the fields of culture, education and, very importantly, the raising of the national awareness in the region of Styria as well as the setting of the border of the Slovene national region, according to Kucan.
