Weekly Review of Events in Slovenia from 18 through 25 September

Ljubljana, 25 September - Pope John Paul II paid his second visit to Slovenia last week, on which he beatified Bishop Anton Martin Slomsek. The Slovene foreign politics was furthermore marked by the travel of Slovene Prime Minister Janez Drnovsek and Foreign Minister Boris Frlec to New York, where they have been participating in the debates taking part at the beginning of the 54th UN General Assembly session. The lower house of the Italian parliament discussed the bill to protect the Slovene ethnic minority in Italy, and in the Slovene parliament the long-awaited second reading of the reform of the pension system finally started. The reading, however, came to a halt right at the beginning because of proposals to introduce the second pillar of insurance.
