The question about the president and his illness, and particularly about the functioning of the state in case something (un)natural happens to its leader, has been raised in Croatia and has not been given a proper answer since the adoption of the 1990 Christmas constitution which introduced the so-called semi-presidential system. Under the constitution the president's only deputy is the speaker of the parliament, but the latter will become an ordinary citizen as of 12 November given that the parliament is dissolved and that new elections for the chamber of deputies are called, a Slovene daily writes in Thursday issues.
