Membership in the EU is a Political Issue, Says Mencinger

The admission of Slovenia and the whole Eastern Europe is above all a political issue for the European Union and an issue concerning the relations within the 15-nation bloc. Any prediction is therefore irrelevant as the decision will always depend on the current political situation and aspirations of the EU. "The main question is not when we are ready to enter the EU, but rather when the EU is ready for enlargement," said a well-known Slovene economist and the chancellor of the Ljubljana University.
