International Conference on Globalisation and European Integration
Ljubljana, 8 November - An international conference on "Globalisation, European Integration, National Identity - Challenges for Small Countries" opened in Ljubljana on Monday with an address by Foreign Minister Boris Frlec and Chancellor of the University of Ljubljana Joze Mencinger. Louis Emmerij, the main consultant for the Inter-American Development Bank warned that globalisation in the last few years has brought new social problems and said that countries should begin by connecting regionally before opening their doors to globalisation. He advised Slovenia to join the EU as soon as possible, save its cultural roots and to avoid liberalising its market to quickly.
