Lombardero and Potocnik Lecture on EU Enlargement

Ljubljana, 9 November - Enlargement is according to the European Commission's negotiator for Slovenia one of the most important opportunities of the EU in the 21st century and a historic task for the peaceful integration of the Continent. The European Commission believes that 2002 is the target date for the Union to prepare for enlargement and admission of those fast-track applicants that meet the Copenhagen criteria for membership, Jaime Garcia Lombardero said in Ljubljana on Tuesday, but added that it would take at least a year for ratification procedures to be concluded.
