Delo Poll: The State, the Church and the Agreement

Most Slovenes are not familiar with the two alternative views on the agreement with the Holy See. According to newspaper Delo's weekly opinion poll, the conflicting views are unknown to 330 respondents out of 758 persons polled. Among those who can tell the difference, about a half support the views put forth by a group of intellectuals in an open letter to state leadership, believing the draft agreement is legally flawed as it puts Slovenia into a subordinate position to the Holy See. The other half believes the government was right in saying there is nothing wrong with the document and that the views espoused by open letter authors are misleading.
