Tokyo, 7 December - FOOTBALL/DRAW/QUALIFICATIONS
The draw to determine the qualifications for the 2002 World Cup was held in Tokyo on Tuesday. Nine European groups were formed at the draw in which a total of 50 European countries took part, out of a total of 198 countries. Slovenia was drawn in the first group and joined Yugoslavia, Russia, Switzerland, Luxembourg and the Faeroe Islands. The winners of each group will advance to the World Cup finals, while the second placed teams will go into additional playoffs.
